Lunar Eclipse Of 4-5 July 2020

2 weeks after the Lunar Eclipse of June 2020 a Penumbral lunar eclipse will be seen across the world including India, as we all know that a Lunar Eclipse happens 2 weeks before or after a Solar Eclipse, Let see more in this post.

What is a Lunar Eclipse ?

As we all are learning since school, Lunar eclipse is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the Sun, the Earth and the moon are in alignment and the Earth casts the shadow on the moon, then gradually the moon enters the earth's shadow it's brightness start to reduce this is the Penumbra part of the shadow then the moon enters the Umbra where it starts to turn red.

But why the moon turn only red ?

This is because, when the light comes from the sun it also has to pass through a thick layer of earth's atmosphere before reaching moon, our atmosphere scatters blue light, therefore , as the light reaches moon only lights of higher wavelengths reach the moon such as red.

  • Timings of the eclipse in in India
Penumbral Eclipse starts on July 5, 8:37 am IST

Maximum Eclipse start on July 5 9:59 am IST

Penumbral Eclipse ends on July 5 11:22 am IST

It wont be possible to see the eclipse properly because it will be around noon and the sunlight will hide the light coming from the moon.

but don't get FOMO (Fear of missing out ) we have many more in store it just a casual Lunar Eclipse not a special one.
